A recent article on ProAVMagazine highlights a recent deal between AMX, FieldServer Technologies and DENT Instruments. This strategic business deal which will allow AMX to create a single, networked interface for controlling many systems within buildings, like automation, HVAC, lighting, security, and AV devices.
AMX will use FieldServer’s Gateway to bridge the gap between AMX platforms and the infrastructure of building management systems, this allowing the interaction with HVAC, security, lighting, and fire systems. The technology incorporated by DENT is the PowerScout power meter, which will improve the system’s efficiency. (Read full article here.)
This new deal furthers our belief that such integrations are necessary to increase timeliness and decrease cost and change orders. The logical next step in automation of A/V resources is integration with the platforms that automate building operations. At Westron, we see two levels of integration; one that ties the environmental controls to room and building usage, as well as the coordination and reduction of cabling as new space is built out.
Instead of a myriad of wall panels controlling the A/V equipment, lights, temp, and security, each with a set of wires running through the facility, AMX can be the common interface. As we work with MEP contractors, we see that we can reduce the overall cost of a project by consolidation of these various components during the BIM (Building Information Modeling) phase of design.
Westron supports MEP contractors such as Brandt Engineering that use BIM heavily to help their clients bring projects in on time and on or under budget by reducing change orders, and this further level of integration provided by AMX will further that goal.
